Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Part 1

This documentary seeks to educate local communities and stakeholders on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process - as per EIA Notification 2006 issued by Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change (MoEF & CC). The EIA notification is applicable to 39 industrial activities. This documentary focuses on a specific example of thermal power plant to provide context and setting for explaining the EIA process. The EIA process is essentially an Environmental Clearance (EC) issued by the MoEF & CC or its state level counterpart - State Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) where in "certain restrictions and prohibitions on new projects or activities, or on the expansion or modernization of existing projects or activities based on their potential environmental impacts as indicated in the Schedule to the notification, being undertaken in any part of India". The EIA notification comprises of the following step 1) screening, 2) scoping, 3) public consultation, 4) appraisal.
